if your dog bites a toad, you should be worried?

strange title, right? right. but like all of my other posts, there is a story behind it.

a couple of days ago I was walking my dog. unlike where I lived before, there are toads at night. everywhere. they literally scare the shit out of me when I approach my apartment building door at night. anyways. I saw one on the sidewalk. and I LOVE animals, not usually amphibians or reptiles, but toads I like; so naturally I like them to be all cute and get along. so I go "chew, look at the toad" and she starts sniffing it and it's so cute and then she picks it up so I snatch it away.

you can actually watch the video here:

so, obviously at the time that I look this video, I didn't know that frogs or toads could be harmful to dogs. and after I took this video, I was doing something on my phone and I look over at chewy who has her nose basically dug into the dirt and I go "chew what are you doing?" and as soon as I finished that sentence I see something squirt up and onto the concrete. so I pull her away and there's this baby toad. and I started crying (not even kidding - I was also a little tipsy might I add) and I go "CHEWY YOU BIT THE TOAD?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?" and I was so sad! but that's beside the point. after I checked to see if she had killed it (which she did *tear*) we went inside.

now, my dog does not go up stairs. so you have to pick her up like the little princess she is... no, just kidding. she was never taught how to climb stairs (my old house was a ranch) so she's afraid of them. so when I went to pick her up she was foaming at the mouth and naturally I panicked. after we got back into my apartment I quick googled what would happen if a dog ate a toad.

dogs foam at the mouth and shake when they eat or lick toads. and she was shaking a lot too. TOADS ARE POISONOUS TO DOGS. and I now know that. and I am letting whoever is reading this know that too.

luckily! chewy did not eat a toad. yes, she licked it, but she was lucky that nothing crazy happened to her. if your dogs eats a toad, you need to make them vomit and make sure they drink a lot of water. all chewy did was drink water.

but yes. that is my story. and my lesson of the day.

Amanda is a 23 year old stuck in an old wise woman's mind. She tends to act older than her age most of the time , but random spurts of a child seep out from time to time. She lives in a decent sized studio apartment with her baby, Chewy the wiener dog. She's a persistent, hard working store manager for Spencer Gifts that doesn't like taking no for an answer.

How to make your life, YOUR life!

Life is like a movie. You can wish for a happy ending, but you cannot change the script. It’s already written. In every single second that we live we don’t write our script, we live a script that is written for us.
But we play a mayor role. We choose the direction, we choose the cast and most important we choose how we live that script. We can try to change it. We can try to reject everything that is given. We can try to displace everything that is written in our script. We can also try to write a different story, but in the end we depend on the script that is written for us and that we have absolutely no bearing on. At least this is what most people think.
Maybe the point in living is realizing that we, humans, don’t really have a saying in how our life will turn. There are so many things that can change us, so many facts and faces and stories and opportunities and chances and results that are powerful enough to change who we are and how we live our life.
In fact, it is a little scary that our life depends on so many circumstances and facts. Many people want to be happy. They try so hard to be happy that they forget about the reasons they should already be happy about. We are a generation of people who learned that success is important, beauty is important and reputation is important. But what happened to qualities like loyalty, honesty, and gratitude. Is this gone? Are we only measured in the results we take in our test?
Is this what is written? Is this how we want our life to turn out? Do we want to be another A- or B or worse, only a C- ? Why is it so important to be always the best in everything we do? Is this the way that we distinguish ourselves? Over success and grades and over numbers that say absolutely nothing about whom we are.
We should leave behind the pressure of society. We should take a piece of paper and a pencil and write down what is important in life. Not for your neighbor, your friend, your parents or any other person, but just for you. What is important for you?
Create a scale of things that you put first. Write down what you like about your self and what kind of persons you like to be around. Maybe the script is written, but you are still the main character in your life. It is your life. Free yourself from the pressure that other people put on your shoulders. You –and only you- are the most important person in your entire life.
If you think of one person that you know best, that you think you know nearly everything about, a person whose reaction to whatever you can presage, who would that be? Would that be your Mom, your Dad, or your best friend ,maybe? No. The one person that you know best is yourself. Why is it that we always try to impress everyone except of ourselves? If we are achieving something, it is always friends or family or people that did not expect something like this of you that we want to share our success with. And this is because we strive for acceptance. We cannot help it. It is in our blood. We inherited this aspiration after acceptance and recognition from our past generations. But maybe we should overthink this before we inherit those to our children and children’s children. Maybe acceptance should not be the first point on our list of qualities. Probably other characteristics are more important. We should start to push our selves into the center of attention in a movie called my life. Each and every one of human population should start to be the most important person in ones life. And this does not mean that you should stop helping others or being friendly. This simply means that no one should have more power over you and your decisions that you do.
Maybe the circumstances are written, but not what you do and how you do it. Do what you love and put away the pressure that other people put on you. Feel free to be who ever you want to be, because no one can prohibit you to write your own script. YOU are worth it and you are good and you are powerful enough to change something. You may not be powerful enough to change the world, but you are powerful enough to change your life on the earth.
Life is given to you as a present. And now make it YOUR life.

Michelle's Favorite Things

Hello! Today I am going to share with you things I have been loving as of lately! Nothing in particular, just random things I have been reaching for constantly!

Carol's Daughter Monoi Repairing: shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask.

I have been using Carol's daughter for a few months ever since I received a sample from them. That one use with the sample is what got me hooked. I hear a lot of people complain about the smell so I guess that is just a personal thing because I love it. And so does my boyfriend! Sometimes I like to curl my hair using a wand, but other than that it is either braided or left to dry naturally. Every single time I use any of these products my hair feels practically brand new...if that is even a description. I do have dry hair due to previous color on my ends, the heat styling where I do use protectants, and from being in the sun. Even once I rinse my hair it is not all tangled. I do not wash my hair every day and I do like to alternate with this product because it is made for repair. If you use too many repair products consistently/daily..it will actually do damage instead of help your hair out.

Benefit Rockateur blusher

A little history: one of my friend's had the Coralista blush box from Benefit and it looked gorgeous so of course I had to use it. Ever since then I have purchased this blush box and never gave the other ones a chance. I started to get a little bored, I still do love it! However, I wanted a tad bit more color on my cheeks. I have seen Rocketuer in many vlogs and it has always gotten high rankings, so I purchased it. I am very glad I did! It has a mixture of dark pinks and not so dark pinks with a splash of lighter pinks and a hint of shimmer; it was the perfect shade I was looking for. It gives me an extra flush for when I like to do up my whole face or a nice natural glow.

Limoncello 3-Wick Candle - Slatkin & Co. - Bath & Body WorksBath & Body Works Limoncello 3-Wick Candle

I love candles. I think this all happened when I moved into my own home and needed something that would make it feel like a home. I am sure my boyfriend would prefer a giant stuffed grizzly bear statue in our living room, but I wanted something that we all could benefit from. I decided candles would do the trick. First I would maybe purchase two at a time because the store always had great deals, but then two turned into four and so on. So now I have a shelf full of candles and I made sure they were all approved by the boyfriend, but one scent that was always a winner was lemon. This particular one is by far the best. I purchased it a while back and then started to venture off in all the seasonal scent. The last time I somehow found my way into the store when I shouldn't be, I picked one up. It was like being reunited with an old lover. It has lemons, sugar, and a hint of zest in it so it is a clean, sweet, and inviting smell to the nose that I love so much. It is good for any room in the house, although I like to hoard them all for only my room. I might be generous and let one sit in the kitchen for everyone else to enjoy its lovely scent.
Black Cherry Merlot Gentle Foaming Hand Soap - Anti-Bacterial - Bath & Body Works

Bath & Body Works Black Cherry Merlot
Calm down, there is no wine in this as many people are disappointed now. Let me just say, I used this soap once at one of my family member's and was like "omg what did I just wash my hands with?! It smells amazing!" I do not know what Merlot smells or tastes like, but I would imagine that it is very delicious. This is a scent that has been around for a while, but since everyone has been into the "Perfect Beach Day" soaps or anything other that is in season; I just wanted to pay my respects to this soap. Thank you Black Cherry Merlot for making hand washing a delightful experience. I cannot wait to wash my hands again.

urban jungle - neautrals by essie

Essie Urban Jungle
Whenever I get the chance I like to make myself cute and do my nails. I have been into colors lately, but my last trip to pick up a product for my boyfriend, this color caught my eye. I have been looking for a white-y color, but not white out white. This is an alabaster orchid and almost makes my hands look a little tan which is always nice. As always, if you do your manicure right the color lasts a good while.

Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil - Timeless CoralJosie Maran Argan Infinity Lip & Cheek Creamy Oil

During my last Sephora visit, the lovely Clarissa turned my attention towards this lovely product. I was interested once she said 'coconut' because I know it is very hydrating. I thought it was a little steep for it to be just a lip color, but she mentioned it is also a cream blush. I needed her to explain that it comes out as an oil, but turns into a cream about 345435 times because I just couldn't wrap my head around it. For my skin tone and liking I chose Timeless Coral. There is a reason I always go to Clarissa because she basically knows what I want and she got me good this time. I love this product and I know it will last me forever due to the fact that two TINY drops is all I need to create the perfect blush and it lasts all day on my lips. Josie is all about using your hands so not brush is needed!

Netflix, you bastard. I have never really used Netflix until I moved into my own home. Which means I had somewhat of a social life and didn't pretend to be a character from a fictional show (but I relate to Blair from Gossip Girl so much...she is my spirit animal). Anyways, seeing Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars basically turned me into the biggest Shailene Woodley fan. Not mainly because of her acting, but from all the articles I have read about her. She is so friggen interesting, sigh...I wish I was her. I did hear about this show when it was airing on ABC, but I really don't remember why I didn't watch it. All that matters is that I am now and am so anxious to see what happens!

LUSH Ickle Baby Bot

I know this sounds weird, but this is a bath bomb. Again, one that is very popular that I have heard about in many vlogs. So during one stressful day I decided to have one of spa nights which includes: candles, tea, face mask, hair mask, and my boo...Netflix. I popped this little guy in the tub and watched it work its magic. With its pretty blue water and calming aroma, I got into the tub and was in bath bomb heaven. This bath bomb is proven to help calm even little kids to help them have a good night's rest and let me tell you...it works. With lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood I was relaxed, my skin was smooth, and I was finally able to fall asleep without having to lay in bed and count...chinchillas.

Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Bronzing Wardrobe
To be quite honest, I have never owned bronzer in my life. I have used it on clients, but never purchased it intended for personal use. What changed my mind? For starters, I love Too Faced and have many palettes from them that are sure to last me a lifetime. Secondly, I am pretty light skinned and decided I needed a bit of tan for the summer. I had no idea which one to pick until I saw Too Faced was coming out with this palette; it was fate. There are three different bronzers to choose from: one is the matte bronzer, the next one is the natural bronzer, and the last is a luminous bronzer. This palette has been featured in many vlogs and looks amazing on any skin tone. Did I mention that one smells like chocolate?!

Displaying photo.JPGRita's Custard and Ice
Oh my gosh was this a find for me. So my boyfriend and I were driving home and he went a way that wasn't the normal street home. I'm thinking "ok maybe he has to go somewhere..." and he pulls up to this custard place that I have never heard of. Being a cooperative girlfriend who loves sweet I pick a Gelati with strawberry mango ice and orange cream custard. Lawd have mercy was it combination of sin and deliciousness. We looked into what makes custard different from ice cream and found out the only difference is egg yolk. I can live with that, but what I cannot live with is how my boyfriend always refers to it as 'tubby custard' from the odd UK child show "Teletubbies" because it actually makes me feel like a teletubby when he brings it up as I am inhaling it. Whatever, I love it. I love you, Rita.

I hope you enjoyed reading about all my favorites! Let me know if you tried any of mine and tell me what yours is too!

Welcome Home Sweet Shoyu!

Hi everyone! As most of you know from my last entry, I have adopted one of San Diego Humane Society's 420+ chinchillas. About a month ago I picked out a little black velvet named, Shoyu and finally got to bring him home on Sunday, September 14th ^_^! The little guy had just went through getting neutered the Friday before, so I was fully prepared to assist in his recovery 110%!

From the day that I picked him out he was very trusting and actually liked to be pet and rubbed down (super rare for a chinchilla who doesn't know you, especially one who's gone through so much stress.) thankfully, that hadn't changed <3. I showed him his new home and it seemed as though he didn't know what to do with all the room the cage had, haha. He'd jump up and down and wall surf 'til he fell asleep. Until he recuperates, he only gets access to one level, a wooden hide-away and a hammock. I can't wait until he gets to explore his full double-decker cage and his play area ^_^.

As for Sanno, my chinchilla of eleven and a half years, he's not taking to the new baby so well. Just like a human child now having to share his home and parents, he's acting like a little spoiled brat! He's always been a bully, even with animals bigger than him (ie: puppies and kittens) but I'm hoping after some time and slow introduction he'll come around and they'll be best of friends.

Shoyu seems to be adjusting quite well and still loves to be rubbed and scratched. He has pain killers and antibiotics that he takes twice a day and he's not liking it what so ever. In a way, I feel like he knows it helps him because he still trusts me to hold him, but he just hates the taste. We're half way through with the meds, so hopefully all will be perfect on his next check up :).

I'll be sure to keep you updated on his recovery and how they bond! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy their pictures and all of their cuteness!

A girl and her horse.

“A horse is the projection of peoples’ dreams about themselves – strong, powerful, beautiful – and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence”  ~Pam Brown

I started working with Cody after she retired from the racetrack and began living at a breeding farm, she was definitely not ready to retire and proved too much to handle without having a job to do. I knew very little about horses and riding then so the both of us learned a lot together. When Cody lost her foal she had a lot of issues with trusting people, she was scared and not very willing to co-operate. We got her out of that place and into a quiet training barn closer to where I lived. I was determined to make her into something special and together we built a bond that will never be broken.

As an adult amateur, I realized long ago that I wasn’t going to the Olympics. And that was fine. I am happy doing what I love, riding my horse for fun and working towards goals I set for myself along the way. Sometimes though, the pressure catches up to me. I feel like I should be riding better, jumping bigger. I get frustrated because I’m falling behind the others and I worry that I’m not doing Cody justice. What if she could be better without me? What if I’m holding her back?

Last week, I was having a particularly rough ride. Cody wouldn’t go straight, at all. She was perfectly content to trot around the ring with her body on a complete diagonal, tossing her head around. We fought and struggled for an hour so I managed one lap of the ring without holding her straight. I patted her and put her back in her stall, having accomplished what was needed, but frustrated with how long it took to get there.

The next time I went to the barn I decided to just relax, take a break and enjoy the ride. I’m happy to report that my mission was accomplished. I got to breathe in the beautiful summer air, galloping around a beautiful grass ring that I had all to myself. And, wouldn’t you know it, Cody was perfect. No more trotting on a diagonal. No more struggle. She was perfectly happy to do the work when we weren’t at odds with each other. I got a chance to enjoy my riding, to remember why I work so hard and love it so much.

Whenever life or the pressures of riding is stressing me out too much, I go sit in my horse’s stall, listen to her soft breathing, and let the smell of hay and shavings bring me back to my happy place. For that time at the barn, I can forget about all the nonsense and stress. As I pick shavings out of her tail I think “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here”

A hearty but affordable meal!

Hello!

Megan, Puff's mommy, here! This is one of my favorite things to eat during the colder months or when I don't want to or can't spend a lot of time in the kitchen. It is a very easy recipe and you can add, or leave out different things, however, I think it would be amazing over some homemade mashed potatoes!

You will need:

  • A crockpot
  • A pound (give or take a little) of raw boneless chicken tenders, your favorite brand
  • 1 can of cream of chicken
  • 1 can of cream of Mushrooms with Garlic (or cream of Onion, Celery, etc. Just pick your favorite)
  • Uncooked rice or orzo pasta
  • 1 cup of water

Super simple, put your crockpot on a low setting and add your soups and about a cup of water, stir to combine then add your chicken tenders. Let it cook on low for about 30-45 minutes (depends on how quick your crockpot cooks.) Pull apart the meat with two forks. It should not be raw, but easy to pull apart! If it needs a little extra time that is just fine, just stir and keep an eye on it. In the meantime boil some water for either your rice or orzo pasta. Once everything it done put a layer of rice or pasta down and ladle the creamy chicken mixture over top!

This is perfect if you are on a budget, feeding a large group or just want some tasty comfort food! :)

I first saw a chinchilla in our local family owned pet store, probably where many have their first chinchilla encounter. I loved so many things about the animal that I decided to start researching, a lot! After gathering tons of information I made the "big decision" to get a chinchilla. (I really do think it is a big deal and huge commitment.) I started to look on the internet for good deals for cages and such when I thought to look on Craigslist for any chinchillas that need a new home. That's were I found my little fluffbutt and the inspiration to start a small business! I am so happy I was able to provide an awesome environment for her and now spoil her with homemade toys and treats!

Strawberry Shortcakes vs Stuffed Strawberries

Hello everybody! Today I have something sweet for you all! Everyone is familiar with strawberry shortcakes with the angel cake, cut up strawberries, and whipped cream. At least that's what I believe, but when I was told to use up four pounds of strawberries; I had to be a little creative. Searching pinterest, all the cabinets, and feeling my brain start to fry I finally came up with an idea. To make stuffed strawberries! Read below and see how I did it! You are in for a real treat.

The first thing I did was make the cream cheese frosting. Here are the ingredients and measurements I used:

  • 8 ounces of cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 8 ounces of unsalted butter cream (at room temperature)
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1 generous teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

First, I mixed the butter and cream cheese in the mixing bowl until it completely mixed at a creamy consistency. It took me about five minutes to get it to where I thought it looked good.

Next, slowly add in the powdered sugar. I was told to do it in smaller portions so I added half a cup at a time. Mixed it all completely with no chunks.

Then I added the pure vanilla extract and kept the mixer going until it was fully mixed. Thinking ahead to what I had to do with the frosting I put it all into a large ziplock bag that let it sit in the refrigerator.

Onto the strawberries! Wash, cut, and repeat! Here are the two steps I did for what felt like forever:
Step 1: cut off top
Step two: core the middle

I had some difficulty making sure I cored evenly. I know there are tools sold for this purpose, but I did this all with a knife! After I was done doing that I neatly layed them in a tray and let them also sit in the refrigerator. With all the strawberries I had to cut, this took me 20 minutes.

This part is for the people who have anger issues; crushing the graham crackers! I wanted to make these look fancy so I decided to add graham cracker dust! It is safe to say it took me a good 5-10 minutes to completely pound/smash/squish the graham crackers to a find dust. I used one sheet!

Now we get to do the fun part! After you are done beating the graham out of the crackers, we get to stuff the strawberries! I thought this would be a sweet surprise for people when they eat it. Mini peanut butter cups were available in plenty so made good use out of those babies and put one in each strawberry. After that I piped the cream cheese frosting on top of each strawberry by cutting a hole that the corner of the ziplock bag. My advice: do not cut a huge hole! You have much  more control with a smaller hole.

Because I had so much graham cracker dust, I dipped the tops of the strawberries into the graham cracker dust rather than sprinkling it on top.

I was very satisfied with the results and enjoyed making them..as much as I enjoyed eating them. I had so much fun making these that I actually went ahead and made my own strawberry shortcakes! I followed the same recipe to make the cream cheese frosting, but instead I baked white cake into cupcakes, scooped out the middle of the cupcake, added in cut up strawberries, topped them with cream cheese frosting and graham cracker dust, AND a cute blueberry. Again, another success.

There are so many ways to make quick and simple treats! What are your favorites? Let me know!

xoxo, Michelle

September 11th, 2001

Today, we remember the tragedy that struck our nation. The lives that were taken away for no reason at all. Thousands upon thousands of lives lost. In this building there were mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and friends.

I am so grateful for the people in my life and would be devastated to ever lose someone like this. I think some people forget from time to time that this happened. But the people who lost a loved one on this day live with pain everyday.

No matter what your beliefs are, send a prayer to the ones who continue to grieve. Be thankful for the life you have. Sometimes, tomorrow is not a promise. Live your life in the most positive way possible

Forever Young.

Fire sparks out on the streets right into our hearts.
The language of youth is universally spoken.
Energy and adrenaline fill the air along with the warm summer breeze.
 We take everything for granted;
Yet we remember each moment as if it was our last.
 Misunderstood by our elders,
But crystal clear to adolescent strangers
Never looking back,
And at the same time, never looking ahead,
 Just living in the moment.
Young and free.

Taylor Swift wants you to

"Shake It Off"

Ok, T. Swift's new single is so catchy, I have to stop myself from dancing at work. I have seen a lot of articles going around about how obscene and vulgar her music video is. To be honest, I have seen worse against my will. Clearly, the internet hasn't seen any new hip hop music videos as of lately. I really don't think her video is that bad, but it does make my stomach feel weird with the twerking chicks. All that jiggle makes me feel self conscious, BUT I will do what Taylor says and shake it off!

My impression of this song is exactly what the song title is. No matter what situation you are in, just shake it off. Taylor has had to deal with a lot the past couple years and I am quite happy to have this new single be about a positive life experience, rather than one about a bad relationship.  If you take the singing out of her lyrics, it is just as if she is talking to each listener personally. Like she is having a conversation about what people are saying about her and what she is going to do about it. Add some jazz instruments and a wide variety of dance genres and voila! I feel like this song is so easy to relate to and it is just what I need in my life. A reminder to just shake the stupid things off.

My problem I am currently having is, I care so much about little things and I let them get under my skin. For example, I am a clean person. Whether I am at home or at work, there is always that one person who doesn't rinse out their dish, fails to push their chair in, or turn off the light. The list goes on, it is sad how particular I am. One little thing can change my whole mood and affect the rest of my day. To the person who invented mood rings, you were onto something. I need one so all the people who cross my path know that I am pissed and to not ask me stupid questions or even be in my personal bubble.

I must add that I actually started a new job so I have to put on this friendly face and keep the sour patch look for when I am alone. I really do love my new job! I talk about it so much and look forward to work, but even if I was at Disney World...someone or something will get on my.last.fricken.nerve.

So, when I have these moments of pure angst, I do little perspective checks on life. I remind myself that these things do not matter and I should be focusing on the positive, important, happy things. Oh, and also to shake it off.

Watch it here!

So Long Boredom...

Say goodbye to the lazy girl you used to be, and hello to the girl that never has to say they are bored. I hope some inspiration sparks while reading, now lets get started!

1. From youtube to pinterest to tumblr , there should be no problem at all finding a fun and creative craft to do. With many of these crafts, the supplies are in your house, no need to spend any money. So spice up a room in your house real quick with a simple DIY (do it yourself). Have fun!

2. Speaking of spicing up your room, if you are anything like me I like my room looking different every now and then. So flex those muscles and get to rearranging. You can have a brand new look to your room just by putting your furniture in a different spot.
